Xeresa's Famous 5 playlist
American Football- Never Meant
"I stole their guitar tunings. I admit to it. Guilty!
I couldn’t understand why they sounded so different and when I tried to learn a song I realised they have tons of custom tunings . Never Meant is in open Fmaj7. FACGCE. Sounds beautiful. Put a capo on and move it about. Most Xeresa songs are in this tuning. Also they use a lot of weird time signatures, I use that a lot."
El Ten Eleven- My Only Swerving
"They’re a duo with a drummer and a guitarist who uses a double neck, bass/guitar and lots of pedals. The songs are instrumental. They play lots of intricate stuff but make it sound really poppy somehow, catchy."
The Postal Service- The District Sleeps Alone Tonight
"I love Ben Gibbard’s voice, and I love Death Cab For Cutie, they’re one of my fave bands but The Postal Service is special. The whole album is amazing, and in a way I’m happy they haven’t done much more. It’s perfect, untouched. The whole concept of heart wrenching pop songs with electronic beats and mangled strings is a big influence, also guest vocalists. A few of my songs started under the title of Postal Service Rip Off hahahaha"
Bjork- Hyperballad
"It’s unbelievably beautiful, the way it builds, the melodies, the fact it breathes, it’s sparse but dense. Her voice is incredible, you’re never quite sure what you’re hearing , it’s kinda shoegazey in a way."
The Decemberists- The Engine Driver
"Not an influence but I just think it’s one of the best songs ever and not something I could write, it’s out of my songwriting comfort zone. It has an amazing storyline and lyrics and I can’t do that. I’m not Nick Cave and I never will be"
