Russell "I was a teenage shoegazer" Hiscox's famous 5 playlist

Following my interview with Russell, I asked him to prepare a famous 5  playlists with songs that were important for him over the year, wih a few word as to why. He was very kind in accepting. Yo

Ten Little Girls Curve: The Blindfold EP from Curve was the vinyl record I brought. It was not available off the shelf and had to be ordered in.

Primal Scream Loaded: This was the song I used to play every Saturday while I was getting ready to go out to the indie disco.

The Smiths Meat is Murder: My wife and I went to see Morrissey in 2015, we have very different tastes in music.  She came out of the gig a vegetarian, it brought us closer musically.

Psychopop Song Grabbel and the Final Cut: The first and only time I have ever been on the guest list at a gig, they were supporting the Close Lobsters in their home town of Glasgow.  I was asked to introduce the band onstage, my highlight of that year.

Recently I found a Grabbel and The Final Cut live home video recorded back in 1991. I tweaked it a bit and replaced live track with remastered version from 2012 Captured Tracks release. Result: The only possible music video for the lost 90's noise pop classic.

Opportunity The Charlatans: For a brief moment The Charlatans were indie cool and groovy while the rest of the indie world was po-faced, it was the funky basslines and psychedelic organ that made their music multicoloured.

From "Some Friendly", 1990.

This is not the first time Russell has been asked for this. If you want to know more about Russell's milestones songs, there is a very good list Everything indie over 40.
